Meeting Minutes – January 12, 2011

The regular meeting of the Wannabee Hobby Beekeepers was called to order at 6:05 p.m. on January 12, 2011 at the Canyon Lake Senior Center by Jerry Owens.

The minutes of the December meeting were not read because the December meeting was primarily a potluck dinner.

There was no treasurer’s report.

Old Business:

2011 Dues:  There was discussion about raising the dues from $5.00 per year per family to $15.00 per year per family.  The additional funds would be used to purchase an extractor for the club.  A three-frame manual extractor costs approximately $300.00.  A motorized one will be more expensive.  A suggestion was made for a two-tier membership for those members not wanting to use a club extractor.  Maggie Engler moved that the dues for 2011 be raised to $15.00, Joan Clements seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

New Business:

Election of Officers:  Jerry opened the floor for nominations for new officers.  The current officers that were present indicated that, although they would serve if necessary, they felt that new officers would be beneficial to the growth of the club.  John Halverson, current treasurer, is unable to make Wednesday meetings due to work requirements, therefore, will not be able to continue as treasurer.  There was general discussion as to the duties and responsibilities of the offices.  The following people were nominated:

  •             Secretary—Linda Anderson
  •             Treasurer—Nicole Preble
  •             Vice President—Jay Erickson
  •             President—Lee Alley

Alex DeMersseman moved to accept the nominations for officers; Lila Lytle seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

Alex DeMersseman reminded all members to register their hive locations with the state.  Jerry had copies of the required forms to do so.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
