Meeting Minutes – September 10, 2014
Club Business – President Tom Allen
The Rapid City Attorney’s office drafted an ordinance regarding Beekeeping in Rapid City. It appears Rapid City residents will have to register their bees and pay a fee.
On Saturday, October, 11, 2014, Memorial Park will host a Taste of South Dakota and they want beekeepers to bring honey to sell at the event. If you are interested contact Tom. email@example.com or www.mainstreetsquare.com or 605-716-1343
Discussion: The Club is forming a program committee to come up with ideas to be presented during meetings.
Contact Tom is you want to place beehives on some property in Custer.
Niko from the Game Fish and Parks, explained her Beehive in a Jar project and asked if anyone would consider donating a few frames to the project so the bees will have honey for the winter. 605-858-5281
Check out Bee Informed Partnership to view beekeeper survey results.
Demonstration: Bill Clements – Uncapping Honey. Use a piece of regular cloth thread (not dental floss, not fishing line) and you’ll get a clean cut.
- When working on the hives, slow down…it keeps your bees calmer.
- When you feed your bees, consider supplementing the sugar water for better nutrition.
- Consider treating your bees for mites now. Tom used the natural hop guard; other medications are available.
Members shared their beekeeping experiences. Most members are having a banner beekeeping year.
